THE FARM
At 25 km. from Florence (20 minutes driving), on the road between Montelupo and Malmantile (Lastra a Signa) there is my farm, where I Francesco Nardi, am the boss, and until 1996 I do organic agriculture. The farm is on a hill, where the river Pesa fall in a river Arno, in a climatic situation proper to the farming of the wineplants and the olives trees, who traditionally push forward the agricultural economy of the area of the Chianti Fiorentino . The farm have 7,50 ha of olive trees intensive culture, and 2.60 ha of vineyard, the products are transformed here, there is a big room for the fermentation of the grapes, and an underground winecellar to old the wine, and an other room to put the wine in the bottles, there is an oil-mill, with stone wheels where in November I extract the olive oil in the traditional way. We can tell that here there was agriculture from everytimes, we can see pluricentenarian olive trees, and the first building are did around the 1500, the closeness to the little town of Montelupo (Who was built by Firenze to fight against Capraia who was from Pistoia), the traces of a roman age villa in the old wall of the Castello , (1200) tells that in this area the olives trees and the wineplants was from everytimes, the structure of the ground and the position on a hill are so right for this kind of colture. The farm is on the old way who go from Firenze to Pisa, still called with the old name via vecchia pisana in the municipality of Lastra a Signa, where this road pass near the medioeval walls of Malmantile. On the right side of the road (coming from Firenze), at the entrance of the farm, there is a very old chappel, La Nunziatina, dedicated to the Holy Virgin, in who, the popular tradiction tells that S. Ambrogio was pass trow. The big works of restauration and renovation was did by the old owner whi at the start or 1900 built the villa in liberty syle, the garden the oil-mill and thewinecellar and a tennis pool. From that date the buildings have not important works inside. Owner by my family from 1954
